The international festival dedicated to the prestigious “white truffle” now celebrates its 86th anniversary and returns to the Langhe from Saturday 8th October to Sunday 27th November with food and wine, folkloristic and cultural events.
A rich edition with many novelties, starting from the symbol chosen to represent the event, the Tree, which generates this most precious fruit of the earth around its roots.
This 2016 edition is an eco-friendly fair, which pays attention to sustainability, the landscape and the conservation of those places in nature where, thanks to a still secret alchemy, every autumn the magic of the White Truffle of Alba is renewed. One of the totally new aspects is the first crowdfunding campaign to collect resources to protect natural truffle-growing areas. An initiative which coincides with the presentation of the White Truffle of Alba nomination to Unesco as an Intangible World Heritage.
The calendar is full of events for this eagerly awaited event by gourmets, introduced Sunday 2 October by the traditional “Palio degli Asini” (Donkey run), one of the most playful and unorthodox re-enactments in Italy.
The 2016 Fair edition is characterised by important cultural and artistic events with internationally appealing exhibitions. The heart of the festival, as always, is the Mercato Mondiale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba (World Auction of the White Truffle of Alba) held in the Cortile della Maddalena, where visitors can buy certified truffles from one of the hundred exhibitors from all over the Region. Here one can also taste the best gastronomic products the land can offer.
Show business personalities, chefs, designers, writers and artists will take the stage of the Alba Truffle Show during the weekends of the Fair, all sharing a passion for truffles, the culture of good food and good taste.
Devoted to real gourmets we have the Foodies Moments, very high level cooking shows which celebrate the marriage between great cuisine and the White Truffle of Alba.
Special appointments with the Wine Tasting Experience, a tasting of the wine heritage of this area, with the Analisi Sensoriale del tartufo (a Sensorial Analysis of truffles), where the secrets of the most famous fungus are disclosed through olfactory tastings and sensorial tests.
